Jours Pâles, a project led by Spellbound (vocalist of Aorlhac), was formed from the remnants of Asphodèle's first and only album, released in 2019 under Les Acteurs de l'Ombre Productions. Spellbound and Audrey Sylvain (Malenuit) were joined by Christian Larsson (Ex Apati, ex Shining, Gloson), Stefan Bayle, and Sébastien Papot (Guitare et batterie, Au champ des morts).
Following the dissolution of the band in the same year, Spellbound decided to continue the musical journey, aiming for both continuity and transformation. This next step involves expressing the music with the same emotional states and dense dysthymic atmospheres while breaking free from the constraints of the past. The shift entails moving away from rock influences and embracing a stylistic evolution towards a metal sound that remains melancholic but incorporates more galloping and aggressive elements.
Éclosion, the debut album of this new endeavor, is a personal reflection on a world that is more dislocated and torn apart than ever before. It also explores the perpetual search for hope and light, conveyed through both the lyrics and the visual aspects.
Spellbound is not alone in this journey, as James Sloan (Uada, Gravelight) and Christian Larsson continue to contribute on guitars. Additionally, several guests have joined the project, including Graf from Psychonaut 4 and Lilas Ondine Dupont (silhouette, backing vocals), as well as Sylvain Bégot (Monolithe) and Lonn (Aorlhac) on solo guitars.
Safe from the world, awaiting ultimate blooming, Jours Pâles was born.
In 2022, Jours Pâles returned, still under LADLO's banner, with their second album named "Tensions." "Tensions" is a personal representation of a dysthymic modern world, perceived as cold, mechanical, and disillusioned, where social media and political scarecrows govern a Mephistophelean society lacking any sense or landmarks. The album's artwork, crafted by Niklas Sundin (founding member of Dark Tranquillity, Laethora...), vividly portrays this theme.
Musically, "Tensions" takes on a more aggressive tone, yet it retains the vision of distorting clichés through an egotistical composition that seamlessly blends various genres. Spellbound remains at the helm, overseeing composition, vocals, and lyrics, while the line-up now includes musicians such as Alex G. on bass (Aorlhac, Altaïr, Ritual Knives), Alexis S. on guitars, and Ben L. on drums (B-Blast records). Additionally, Natalie Koskinen (from the doom metal cults of Shape of Despair) contributes as a guest on the album.
